In view of our current ecological and economic challenges, it is clear that honing with diamond or boron nitride cutting edges has become an indispensable part of modern manufacturing.
Numerous factors determine the result of the honing process. Only the ideal composition of a honing strip and process-appropriate tuning of the individual parameters lead to the desired result. High production qualities, short machining times and long tool lives are thus achieved.
The definition of a suitable honing bar is a matter for our specialists with many years of practical experience from a wide variety of applications in the field of honing technology.
We will find the optimum honing strip for you, not only for Gehring tools, but also for tools from other manufacturers.
The perfect honing stone basically consists of three different components which, as a unified whole, provide the required cutting properties.
The basis and thus the most important component of any honing stone is the abrasive. Synthetic diamonds or cubic boron nitride (CBN) in various grain sizes are used for this purpose.
The second component is the metal binding. This is responsible for the firm hold of the cutting crystals in the matrix and ensures good wear behavior in the application.
The copper-plated steel base is the third and final component and, in drawn galvanized form, forms the support material of each bar.
The cutting pad is made with a steel base and the honing bar is soldered or glued to the support bar of the tool.
Ordering formula: W x H x L x Y
Example: 5.00 x 6.00 x 100.00 x 2.0
The same structure as the standard honing gib, only with a longitudinally slotted coating.
Ordering formula: W x H x L x Y S
Example: 6.00 x 6.00 x 80.00 x 2.5 S 2.0
Strip with T-shaped profile with a narrow stepped bar and a wide short working part in the lower part.
Ordering formula: W x H x L x Y T x L’
Example: 5.00 x 5.00 x 70.00 x 2.0 T1 x 64
Honing strip with an upper and lower guide in symmetrical arrangement
Ordering formula: W x H x L x Y G x L
Example: 3.00 x 3.00 x 45.00 x 2.0 G 7.5
This consists only of cutting lining (without steel base) and is also soldered or glued onto the carrier strip/carrier segment of the mold.
Ordering formula: W x H x L x Y
Example: 3.00 x 2.00 x 60.00 x 2.0
Honing strip with narrow, cutting part and lateral guides arranged symmetrically. Application: Cylinder block and liners
Ordering formula: W x H x L x Y P B’
Example: 6.00 x 5.00 x 80.00 x 2.0 P 1.5
(strip width B not equal to strip height H)
To complete our product range, we also offer ceramic honing stones. For detailed information, please contact our specialists directly.
A ready-to-install strip for direct use in the mold body. This type of bar is used in tool systems for machining high-precision bores. In general, the round-cornered design is used.
Ordering formula: W x H x L x Y
