Small bore diameters often place different demands on the manufacturing technology than large ones. Challenges, such as an unfavorable length/diameter ratio of the bore must be solved. To meet these conditions, we have further developed our life hone machine series with regard to customer requirements. The construction kit was adapted to market requirements, and already proven assemblies were further optimized. The result: quality, short delivery times and functionally mature components.
Whether as a multi-spindle transfer solution for large-scale production or as a single-spindle version for small batch sizes – high-precision workpieces with honing diameters of up to 90 mm are optimally machined with the appropriate variant.
Easy operation and highest performance will assist to find the right solution regardless of your accuracy requirements and process conditions.
Depending on customer requirements and the range of products to be processed, the machine is equipped with the appropriate honing unit. The Gehring honing control system enables controlled stroke speeds and switching accuracies. The user-friendly, clear user interface of the Gehring operator panel (GOP) and the program wizard facilitate operation. After entering workpiece, material and tool data, you can determine the process and stock removal to already start honing after positioning the tool. The stroke and all relevant parameters for workpiece machining are calculated automatically.
The bore diameter and the taper are determined by a pneumatic air measuring device and shown graphically on the display of the Gehring control panel. Depending on customer requirements, in-process as well as pre- and post-measurement systems can be integrated.
To remove light burrs on edges, recesses or cross holes, it is possible to integrate a brushing process. Likewise, a centrifugal or blow-off station can be optionally integrated to remove the coolant from the workpiece.
Technical data | L 200 | L 630 |
|---|---|---|
Stroke length (mm) | 200 | 600 |
Honing diameter (mm) | 0,6 – 12 | 3 – 90 |
Spindle drive | Servo motor | Servo motor |
Speed, max. (m/min) | 6000 | 4500 |
Linear actuator | Linear motor | Ball screw |
Stroke speed, max. (m/min) | 60 | 40 |

The single-spindle version of the lifehone series impresses with its compact design. Depending on the machining task and batch size, this machine type can be optionally equipped with a fixed or rotary indexing table with max. 4 stations will be equipped.
| Required floor space (W x D x H) / (mm) | 1400 x 2150 x 3500 |

This variant can be executed with 1 or 2 honing spindles. Rotary indexing tables with 3-8 stations enable measuring operations and secondary processes. Compared to the single-spindle honing center, this variant is 60 cm wider. Two spindles enable a two-stage process.
| Required floor space (W x D x H) / (mm) | 2000 x 2900 x 3500 |

Our two-spindle design is the standard solution on the market for gear wheels. The integrated transport offers the possibility to forward gears with different diameters. As a result, the user only needs one device under each of the spindles.
| Required floor space (W x D x H) / (mm) | 2000 x 2500 x 3500 |

The Gehring honing center with interior column design combines modern appealing design with optimal accessibility. The inserted ring-shaped turntable, which is arranged around the inner column, ensures
quick access to the processing stations, good overview
as well as quick and easy retooling of the machine. Maintenance fields
at the individual stations also facilitate maintenance. Optionally equipped with 6 or 8-cornered inner columns, up to 7 honing units can be attached. Short cycle times and multi-stage processes can thus be realized. Pre- and post-measuring stations are mounted between the workstations on the opposite side. The space inside the machine
is thus optimally utilized. Another advantage is the overall compact design and the resulting low space requirement for you in production. In order to have a specific station in view during operation, the Gehring control panel can be guided around the entire machine. This ensures ergonomics and flexibility during operation. The user-friendly, clear user interface of the Gehring operator panel (GOP) and the program wizard facilitate operation.
| Required floor space (W x D x H) / (mm) | 2000 x 2500 x 3500 |
| Weight, net in kg | 2100 x 2400 x 3600 |
| Workpiece examples | Gears, planetary gears, injection pump parts, housing, etc. |
Integrated as standard in our machines is the Gehring Connection Module (GCM) – our solution for high connectivity. The module provides safe and reliable access to your machine. Thanks to VPN and LTE/UMTS, remote support of our service staff is possible at any time. Full data control remains with our customers throughout and the module can be switched on or off at any time.

Precision and durability are the hallmarks of our tooling systems. They guarantee maximum economy, optimized surfaces and the best possible bore geometries.
You too can benefit from the Gehring tooling system, which is optimally matched to the machine. More information about our L-Series
The Diato honing stones, also a product of the Gehring Group, contain diamond or boron nitride (cBN) as the actual cutting material. These cutting crystals are embedded in a hard metallic matrix. The material is machined through the grain protrusion.
