»At Gehring since October 11th, 2017
I moved to the United States from my home country, Kazakhstan, four years ago, when I was 18. At that point of my life, I still was not sure what I wanted to do, and this big world of opportunities was right in front of me. I did not know how to approach it, so I started college in order to try to see what I might like doing long-term. During my sophomore year of college, I developed a passion for mathematics, and having a lot of friends who became engineers and were happy with their choices. I decided that mechanical engineering would be a good field for me to go into. I am pleased with my decision, because it led me to where I am today.
I started working at about the same time I started college, and it has been an interesting adventure for me. In the past few years, I have worked at a couple of big animal hospitals as a veterinary assistant. It was more of a hobby, and, as you might guess, it is very different from what I am doing right now. However, the experience I gained definitely added a lot of value to the skills that help me perform at Gehring.
Gehring is my first job related to my future profession as an engineer, so I am very excited to learn as much as I can while going to school and completing my education. I have a long way to go until I can graduate, so I am very open-minded to the knowledge I am receiving here from my colleagues.
I had been looking for a job opportunity in the engineering field for quite a while, but the opportunity to work at Gehring came quite suddenly. My friend, who is a controls engineer at Gehring, had been telling me about how much he liked working at the company and how big of a learning opportunity it was for him, so when I learned that a position that fit my interests was available, I immediately applied.
It has only been a few months since I started, but I am interested in staying with Gehring long-term. While I am still in school, being an R&D Admin offers many ways to learn about the company and its processes. Eventually, a few years down the line, I am planning on applying for an engineering position here, so I think that being so close to all the processes happening here and being a part of those is going to help me become a better professional.
I am an R&D Admin, and most of my work includes working with documentation, as well as communicating with customers. We are a research and development facility, so we are working with a lot of new processes. This means there is always documentation and information that needs to be sent to the clients, such as inspection results and performance updates. I am the person responsible for delivering such information to the clients, and often am an intermediary of communication between them and the PD team. Most of the paperwork that goes through the facility is processed by me to make sure all the processes go smoothly and the customer is left satisfied.
Gehring has a great work culture. Honestly, one of my favorite things about working here in PD is my team. I have never had colleagues who were this helpful to me in my learning. I know for sure that if I have questions or need advice on any work-related issue, they will assist me. They present me many opportunities to learn something that will be helpful to me in the future, and I can see that they are interested in my progress. This support is something that keeps me going even on the days when life gets chaotic and stressful, so I am thankful for having such amazing coworkers.
Gehring is a great company offering opportunities to learn something special and exclusive. Honing is a very specialized field, so no matter what previous experience any potential candidates might have, Gehring will offer a lot of opportunities to learn something new. The company is broken into smaller teams according to their job functions, and this means that one person will have many different responsibilities, which is a positive. The work we do is never one-sided. Every day something new is being developed here, so working here, I do not have to worry that I will get sucked into a boring routine. There is always going to be something more to explore, and that is why Gehring is a great place to work.
