History
We are a globally operating machine tool company in the area of honing technology. Since 1926, the most important technical impetuses, which have made honing what it is today-a globally demanded performance process- have come from us. There is hardly anyone in the entire metal working industry who wants to go without performance we offer. This is our recognition and daily incentive.
1926
Foundation of the Gehring company in Naumburg / Saale by Christoph- Willi Gehring. The company started with repairing engines and first serial production of honing tools.
1938
Production of the first six-spindle honing machine with dependent stroke drive, type V6
1941
The first Gehring honing machine is equipped with hydraulic strove drive, centralized lubrication system and honing oil filtration with felt filter.
1943
Patent registration of a hydraulic gauging system
1948
Resettlement of the Gehring family to Stuttgart and start of the new Maschinenfabrik Gehring in Ruit near Stuttgart
1951
Patent registration of a honing stone with natural diamonds
1960
Introduction of plateau honing of combustion engines
1961
First honing machine with pneumatic in-process gauging system
1966
Construction of the first honing tool with coolant flows.
1975
Introduction of Gehring Cylindromatik
1977
First serial production if injection parts for diesel injection pumps with cylinder from quality below 1 µm
1989
Gehring presents the first NC controlled honing machine at the international Machine Tool Exhibition EMO.
1992
Introduction of the laser technology and the Laser Honing for combustion engines.
2006
Development of the Lifehone – Series for small diameters
2007
Introduction of position honing. Developing of the machine types powertrainhone.
2010
Introduction of form honing. Honing with diameters of ≤ 0.8 mm goes into mass production.
2011
Presentation of the new smarthone and the new, exclusive machine design at the EMO in Hanover.
2016
Gehring celebrates 90th anniversary with visitors and representatives from all over the world.
2018
Gehring and copperING, specialist for the production of electric drives, join forces.
2020
Gehring becomes part of the Nagel-Group.
