Software Controls Engineer (m/f/d)
Gehring L.P. was founded in 1976 in Farmington Hills, Michigan, which is a suburb of Detroit. Our 50,000 square foot facility offers a full-service machine tool operation, engineering and assembly of customer specific precision honing machines, comprehensive research and development services, contract honing, tooling rework, a highly qualified team of service technicians, as well as a large spare parts warehouse. We are currently seeking an experienced Software Controls Engineer (m/f/d) in the Farmington Hills location to fill a permanent position.
Tasks
Working in a machining environment with duties to design, setup, startup, commission, debug and run-off machines without continuous supervision. Work with project managers to execute per project timeline. Interfacing with customers on shop floor and carry over to plant floor for final acceptance.
Requirements
- Must be willing to work extended hours when required
- Required experience with one or more of the following Software, Siemens Step 7, Sinumerik 840D, Allen Bradley Logix5000, WinCC Flexible 2008, TIA Portal, Factory Talk Studio, Botch/Rexroth IndraWorks, Starter
- Programming Languages (STL, SCL, Ladder, G-code, Visual Basic, C++.)
- Able to develop PLC program from scratch
- Electrical background
- Understanding of industrial network communications – Ethernet, Profibus, Arcnet, Canbus, ProfiNet, RS232, RS485, Analog, Fieldbus
- Knowledge to read and understand electrical prints along with able to modify and implement changes
- Experience in Microsoft Office suit
- Associates or Bachelors in Electrical Engineering or other relevant area such as Computer Science, or 5+ years in related experience
- Must be willing and able to travel domestically and internationally when needed per project required
- AutoCad or Eplan a plus
- Able to follow PPE (Personal Protection Equipment)
- Ability to read electrical prints, mechanical prints a plus

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
